Duel relationships, or multiple relationships in the realm of therapy can cause detrimental effects on the quality of rendered services. So what is the most prevalent duel relationship within the domain of psychology?
Therapy has a variety of techniques used by various practitioners in various cases. The simplest answer to your question has to do with empathic identity. It doesn’t matter what the professional relationship is, provided it does not cross certain boundaries. A sexual partner is never appropriate for empathic therapy. In fact, a true professional clinician should refer anyone with an existing identifiable relationship to a secondary support system of counselors, if feasible. Professional boundaries become blurred when empathetic feelings allow a therapist to actively manipulate a professional client. Empathy is the single sharpest treatment and destructive force in clinical counseling.
