bible quotes love relationships
As a gay person how does one get closer to God without feeling immense guilt?

I love Jesus Christ, I am a disciple of God, I believe in the holy trinity. I cry when I think about my sins, and I tell God that I love him and want him in my life more and more.
That I need his guidance and understanding, his wisdom and his compassion. I tried to
date, and love women for many years. I was on the fence between giving up “literally”, or surviving the best way I possibly can.
Your spirit is the thing that gives you strength, I know this to be true. I’ve accepted
myself sexually, but not spiritually, and that’s the problem I have. Deep down, I feel tremendous guilt, and I need to absolve this somehow. It affects my life, my relationships, my world. I’m not bitter, or angry. I just want to be “fully” in tune with myself. How can I do this when the bible quotes fire and brimstone as punishment for being who I am?

I think I can relate very much to what you have written. I, too, am a follower of the Christ, but I want you to read as much as you can on what Jesus said about sex. Not about homosexuality – that term didn’t exist then. You also need to look at how this applies to today’s world. We are not perfect – no one is. But if you are pure of heart and have a desire to be the best person you can be, how can God or anyone else judge you? We did not make ourselves gay, therefore it stands to reason that we are meant to be this way. God doesn’t make mistakes, right? You are in this world for a reason and a loving God doesn’t punish us for how He made us. There are always those who would bastardize the scriptures to make them read how they want. You cannot allow these hate mongers and self-righteous people to make you feel any less loved than they are. To me, when you go about telling people they are going to hell, you are judging them. And only God will be the judge. They are often wrong – how would they like it if they were told they could no longer have sex at all. Just live with it. That is what they say to us: “we don’t hate the sinner, just the sin”. That would be them as well. As long as you strive to be a good person and are willing to admit to yourself that there should be no shame in who you are, then you will survive and live a happy life. But, if you allow these haters to make you feel guilty and you listen to their poison, you are indeed lost. You need to read more, branch out more and get to know more people who are like you: Gay and Christian. I could recommend a lot of organizations that you could join in order to lessen this self-hatred and guilt, but in the end, you are the only one who can do this. Just know that you are not alone and that there are people just like you, deserving of love and respect. Take the guilt out – you do not deserve it. If you ever want to talk more about this, please feel free to contact me.
Peace,
Bret
